Road Ride Categories

A

  • 17+ mph average and/or difficult terrain or several difficult climbs.

  • Regroup points and rest stops are few and designated by ride leader.

  • Riders should be comfortable with the route and able to support themselves.

  • Advanced level. These rides are for very strong riders wanting a hard workout.

  • Strong skills riding in a fast group: understand how to safely paceline, indicate obstacles, etc.

B

  • 15-17 mph average and/or some challenging terrain or climbing.

  • Riders will regroup periodically as designated by ride leader.

  • Riders should be comfortable with the route and able to support themselves.

  • Advanced level. These rides are for strong riders looking for a challenge.

  • Strong skills riding in a fast group: understand how to safely paceline, indicate obstacles, etc.

C

  • 13-15 mph average and/or rolling terrain or minor climbing.

  • Stops and regroup points, as designated by ride leader, are used to keep the group together.

  • Riders should be able to support themselves.

  • Intermediate level. Fit riders should start here.

  • Good skills riding in a group: understand how to safely ride around others and, most importantly, know your limitations.

D

  • 11-13 mph average, mostly rolling terrain.

  • Regrouping is frequent with nobody left behind.

  • Intermediate level.

  • Know how to ride safely, steer, brake. Willing to listen to requests.

E

  • <11 mph average, mostly rolling terrain.

  • Regrouping is frequent with nobody left behind.

  • These are casual/social rides.

  • New riders should start here.

Mountain Bike Ride Categories

  • Single-track and/or gravel roads.

  • Pace and terrain will vary.

Gravel/Cyclocross Ride Categories

  • Gravel roads or actual CX courses where cyclocross bikes are optimal.

  • Pace and terrain will vary.
