NRVBA Supported Rides
The NRVBA sponsors and hosts several supported rides throughout the year. The routes travel through some of the most scenic parts of western Virginia. The rides include:
Mountains of Misery: With double metric and century options, Mountains of Misery is one of the challenging rides in the mid-Atlantic. The final 5-mile climb to Mountain Lake and the coveted finisher’s shirt at the end, make this event memorable and rewarding.
Wilderness Road Ride: A scenic and historical adventure through southwest Virginia’s beautiful New River Valley, the ride follows part of Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Road. This is a ride for the whole family to enjoy, with something for everyone — 5 routes ranging from a 14 mile relaxed journey for novices, to a 78 mile challenge for the fittest cyclist. In 2010, the Fellowship for Chrisitan Athletes began operating this ride.
Burke’s Garden Century: This century has become a tradition for the New River Valley Bicycle Association since 1997 when a long time member initiated this ride for a casual outing to avoid campus traffic on ‘MOVE IN’ day for Virginia Tech. This ride has rapidly gained popularity as a fast, easy century for anyone who loves to ride bicycles. Many novice cyclists enjoy this century as their first, while advanced riders test their hammering ability to plug out 100 miles at a fast pace.
